My name is Yoon Jung Lee, and I’m a film director and visual artist. I’ve made various short films/media-performances/installations and exhibited them internationally, winning several awards.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I graduated from Sogang University in English Literature before completing MFA in Film & Video at California Institute of the Arts in 2005. As a visual artist, my experimental works have been introduced at galleries and museums. I also work as a visual director in various performances and as an editor for independent films as well as working in the directing team on feature movie projects. I was the script supervisor for the movies “THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD” (directed by Jee-woon Kim) and “MY SWEET, YET BRUTAL SWEETHEART” (directed by Jae-gon Son).

What was your inspiration for B Spa Bar?
I always wanted to create a unique spa environment where people can escape, relax, have fun, find beauty secrets and learn about skincare. I wanted to be different by customizing my facials according to your skin type and conditions. So, a bar concept was formed where I wanted to concoct a mask with over 75 different natural ingredients that I have.

Introducing The Mustard Seed Generation (MSG) – Promoting Holistic Identity Development for Koreans and Korean Americans

Dr Josephine Kim Mustard Seed Generation

The Mustard Seed Generation (MSG) promotes holistic identity development by reducing cultural gaps in multigenerational Koreans and Korean-Americans to promote well-being.

The massacre at Virginia Tech was a blatant reminder that discourse and education around such tabooed topics needed to happen soon for Korean-Americans, and in response, Mustard Seed Generation was created, which solely focuses on educating and servicing Korean American youth and young adults via leadership conferences. Our organizational goals are:

1) that culture-specific education provided by ethnically-matched educators and counselors will increase knowledge of mental health services,

2) to decrease the cultural stigma associated with seeking help,

3) to increase openness and confidence toward receiving services,

Video: Christian Man was Born with No Arms and No Legs – Absolutely Inspiring

If you are going through some tough times in your life, I’d like to introduce you to Nick Vujicic. A friend of mine shared this video with me, and I just couldn’t help but to share this inspiring video with the Konnect Magazine readership.

If you feel as if you are at the end of the road, perhaps Nick’s story could bring you back to the narrow.

Simply inspiring. I understand that this has nothing to do with Asians, but I just couldn’t help it.

(A special thanks to a Konnect Magazine reader/guest contributor who shared this with us)

You Are Not Ugly, So Don’t Make Those ‘Am I Ugly?’ Videos

Margaret Cho Asian American actress and comedian

You’re not ugly.

Not in the least. Don’t make those videos. Take them down if they are up. You don’t need people to tell you how beautiful you are on there. You don’t need to put yourself in the position to be judged that way. You are better than that and you deserve the very best in life. If I could come through this screen and tell you and show you and bolster you and buoy you up and raise you high above all the bad shit you are going through – so your spirit is free and you feel like you are flying, I would. I’d give anything if I could find a way to show you how lovely and perfect you are. If you’d believe me when I say you are amazing, you are the only you in the world and that makes you special and precious and holy, truly one of a kind – it would make me the happiest. [Read more...]
